Flowergate Factory, Nestlé Nigeria

Project Introduction

CoreLab is Nestlé’s renewed commitment to the people behind the process; a wellness-forward gym and fitness studio designed to promote balance, movement, and mental clarity within an industrial setting.

This isn’t just a workout space. It’s a lifestyle intervention; a clean, calm, and inspiring environment that empowers Nestlé employees to stretch, sweat, and reset before or after the demands of the production floor. Built within the Flowergate facility, CoreLab invites a new rhythm to the workplace; one where strength meets stillness, and motivation meets mindfulness.

From the bold “No Excuses” callouts on the walls to the precision in layout and finishes, every inch of this space is a reminder that personal well-being is integral to professional excellence.

Architectural Approach

The design of CoreLab leans heavily on balance, between open space and enclosed form, between industrial energy and mental calm.

We divided the gym into two distinct zones:

  1. A high-performance zone equipped with treadmills, bikes, and weight stations, layered over rubberized flooring for durability and grip.
  2. A movement studio with mirrored walls and foam mat placements for stretching, mobility work, and low-impact group classes.

The ceiling structure was left exposed but enhanced; revealing cable trays and ducts in a rhythm of modern industrial expression, softened by custom lighting panels and clean white trims.
Walls carry motivational imprints like Never Give Up and No Excuses; graphically framed to inspire and energize without overwhelming the space.

Natural light is maximized through floor-to-ceiling glass along one side of the gym, while ambient lighting creates a consistent tone across different times of day. Air circulation, acoustic comfort, and spatial zoning were carefully addressed to allow the gym to feel vibrant without becoming chaotic.

Potted greenery and warm wooden textures subtly bridge the sterile and the serene, bringing emotional warmth into a performance-driven space.

Material Specification

A refined blend of resilience and calm guided the selection of finishes:

  • Flooring: Rubber granule tiles in the equipment zone for shock absorption and grip; foam-backed vinyl tiles and neutral stone-finish slabs in the stretching/yoga area for both durability and comfort underfoot.
  • Walls: Industrial-grade paint in warm white; feature walls in natural wood slats to break up the monotony and add acoustic softness.
  • Ceiling: Exposed service trays in matte orange steel with custom drop lighting; balancing function, aesthetics, and energy.
  • Graphics: Vinyl wall art in muted charcoal, heat-pressed onto structural columns; serving as passive visual motivation.
  • Equipment: Commercial-grade Matrix treadmills, ellipticals, and bikes, ergonomically arranged for flow and efficiency.
  • Greenery: Indoor potted palms and planters positioned for visual relief and biophilic connection.

Final Note

CoreLab is a space that energizes, challenges, and restores. It represents Nestlé’s deeper belief that productivity starts with people, and wellness isn’t a luxury, it’s a responsibility.

This isn’t just a gym. It’s a space where discipline becomes habit, and effort becomes energy.
